VALERIAN WOOD The name Valerian comes from the Latin word 'valere', which means health. The herb was used in Anglo-Saxon times for calming down the nervous system in case of over-stimulation. During World War II it was used in England against shock. And the Incas used it as massage ointment. The Valerian root is known for its relaxing and calming qualities, and is therefore a good alternative to tranquilizers. Valerian calms the central nervous system. It is used against anxiety and overexertion. Valerian is often used against insomnia. It helps to fall asleep faster, without the feeling of being dazed when waking up the next morning. The herb is especially useful for people who are so overactive they can not relax. Valerian calms all sorts of stress, but does not interrupt the power of concentration. At high doses it gives you the feeling of 'floating on air'. |
